At the time of writing, the last two iterations (1.4.2 and 1.4.3) of the Android app OM Image Share (aka OI.Share) include a mechanism that requires scrolling to the bottom of the terms of use page to activate the [Accept] and [Decline] buttons before being able to use the app. It turns out that on my smartphone (Lineage OS 23.2 based on Android 16), this doesn’t work. I tried everything suggested in social media comments and forums, like scrolling leeeeeeentely to the bottom of the page, scrolling back up, carefully tapping the back icon rather than using Android’s “previous screen” gesture, etc. Nothing works.

I mainly use this app to update the A-GPS data of an Olympus TG-5 once a week, because otherwise it takes forever to get a fix.

The only solution is to roll back. Since I don’t use Google Play Services, I use Aurora Store to install commercial apps I can’t find on F-Droid or Obtainium. Aurora Store has a handy feature that lets you download an older version of an app, provided two conditions are met:

  • the older version must still be available on the network,
  • you need to guess which version code corresponds to the marketing version you want.

For OI.Share, the last version without the new terms of use acceptance mechanism is 1.4.1, and its version code happens to be 141 (though that’s a coincidence). Go to the app’s page on Aurora Store and request a specific version download (the “Manual Download” button if the app isn’t already on your device, or the hamburger menu in the top right corner in either case). Enter the version code in the field that appears and you’re done.
